Frequently asked questions
No. Thallo is need-led, not diagnosis-led. A formal diagnosis is not a condition of suitability - referrals are considered around presenting need, safety, and whether Thallo can provide the right environment.
Thallo is for young people aged 10–16 whose barriers to education are predominantly internalised - such as anxiety, emotionally based school avoidance, masking, shutdown, or sensory and social-communication differences.
Small and calm. Sessions run in the morning (9:00–12:00) or afternoon (12:30–15:30), starting with arrival, breakfast/snacks and a wellbeing check-in, then a mix of RESTA, practical activities like cooking or outdoor learning, and English/Maths woven in naturally. There are never more than 6 young people onsite, with a maximum ratio of 1 adult to 4.
Placements are flexible and part-time - from individual sessions up to a 15-hour weekly package, depending on need. Attendance doesn't have to increase in a straight line; the aim is meaningful engagement and the right next step.
No. Thallo is not designed as behaviour-management or high-arousal provision. The emotional and physical safety of the group is central to every suitability decision.
All staff are safer-recruitment checked with enhanced DBS clearance, with DSL/DDSL safeguarding coverage across every session. Attendance, engagement, safeguarding and progress information is shared with commissioners through agreed reporting and review.
